Oh Greenhalghs what have you done!! The fine Bolton baker actually took the time and trouble to tweet me last summer to make me aware of this fiery feast and now it appears that it’s back on the menu.
I had to walk to the station one Saturday morning to pick my car up and picked up one of these pies only for it to blow my socks off and kind of sort out my hangover.
It doesn’t initially feel vindaloo strength but it gets there eventually and when it does it angrier than a barrel of agitated wasps. At one point I find myself squaring up to a dark, dangerous chilli staring at me aggressively as if to say “COME ON THEN LET’S HAVE YOU”.
If you like hot food and you like pies as indeed I do then this is indeed a terrific feed just make sure you have a towel to hand for the inevitable curry sweats.
Unfortunately, this one isn’t in the book although I’ve had the chicken madras version and indeed the chicken tikka masala pie which was a high scorer and better than the standard chicken balti pie fayre served up at football matches
There’s another 313 pies like the above featured in Life of Pies. If you want to order a copy of the book for just £9.99 plus postage please click this link to order www.lifeofpies.co.uk/buy
You’ll receive it as soon as I’ve finished my pie!
