Although I’m quite centrally located – indeed I’m based in the pie capital of the country that is Wigan, there are certain places that I had to visit yet were quite hard to get to. It’s not easy to get to Inverness and back in a day just to get a pie and whereas Mrs T is an understanding girl, I’d possibly be pushing my luck a bit there.
So I hit upon an idea: if I can’t go to the pie, I’ll get the pie to come to me. Henceforth, a conversation with Frank Yorke of Dundee resulting in a box of fiery pies winging it’s way all the way from the Tay.
Whenever we put the magazine I write on sale, there’s usually half a dozen or so miscreants and hangers on who help to sell it and have a chinwag with us. Now who can I possibly get to help me consume these fine looking specimens?
To be honest, it has subsequently become a ritual for me to procure pies from far and wide. However, the original boxful (as photographed above) are yet to be matched.
The Yorkes Peppered Steak pie is packed full of top quality braising steak and that peppered steak sauce is absolutely amazing. All cooked up in the traditional Scotch pie shaped shell crust. The football fans of Dundee and their visitors are indeed lucky, lucky people.
