crusty1Bit of a daft name really isn’t? Surely by default a pie should have a crust otherwise it’s not a pie; nor is it crusty.

Anyway, sweeping aside that minor pedantry, if you head to Market Street in Manchester at the minute you’ll find a load of market stalls. It spread around our place like wildfire “THERE’S A POP UP PORK PIE STALL NEAR THE ARNDALE” and indeed there was. We don’t get this kind of excitement every day you see.

My excitement was a little deflated only because I’d sampled the Crusty Pie Company’s pies before. Don’t get me wrong they’re decent but I’m always seeking that uniqueness of something new to try.

Based in Halifax, Crusty Pie do a range of exotic flavours including Wild Boar Pie and Pork and Firecracker chillli. However, I plumped for the Chunky Steak and Yorkshire Ale Pie, somehow the addition of extra words just tempted me further. A touch pricey at £3.50 but a quite large pie for one appetite.

There’s another 313 pies like the above featured in Life of Pies. If you want to order a copy of the book for just £9.99 plus postage please click this link to order

You’ll receive it as soon as I’ve finished my pie!
