I got wed in the Lakes around about six years ago today, it’s an obvious thing to say but when you get the weather, there’s no better place in the world to be. There were no pies on the buffet but had I known this place was around the corner I might have had a re-think.

Situated by the park and bowling green on a road populated by traditional B&B’s, Peggy’s only really stands out when you walk in and see what they’ve got to offer.

You see Peggy’s makes meat and potato pies to die for. Big plate pies the size of manhole covers. The crust is firm and the inside is layered, first with potato slices and then with mincemeat in a superb hearty snack.

If I have a gripe it that’s the service is a bit slow but hey – it’s the Lake District, nobody is in a rush around here!

There’s another 313 pies like the above featured in Life of Pies. If you want to order a copy of the book for just £9.99 plus postage please click this link to order

You’ll receive it as soon as I’ve finished my pie!
